Slough of despond

Article Abstract:

Thames Valley University, England, faces a drop in applications which could lead to financial problems, and job cuts and course closures have been proposed. The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education was critical of the university after an instruction was given for some students who had failed to receive a pass. This order was later revoked. Many students in higher education may be better off taking a diploma lasting two years, rather than a degree. Mergers could be the best solution for universities encountering problems such as Thames Valley.
