Smoother seas ahead

Article Abstract:

Long-term prospects for investments in the shipping industry are excellent. While operators are constrained by tonnage overhangs, the expected economic upturn will increase steel scrap demand. This demand for steel and the operators' efforts at optimizing efficiency and cost reduction are expected to benefit the industry. Operators are increasing efficiency through the acquisition of new and faster ships, higher utilization of intermodal transportation and route modifications to shorten travel time.
