Valacyclovir

Article Abstract:

Oral valacyclovir (Valtrex) may be comparable to acyclovir in treating herpes zoster (shingles) and genital herpes. Herpes zoster is an infection that causes rash and severe pain in adults. Valacyclovir is better absorbed than acyclovir and reduces pain faster. A large group of patients with genital herpes took doses of valacyclovir equivalent to or higher than acyclovir. Patients responded well to both drugs, with similar side effects. High doses of valacyclovir may cause thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura in patients with suppressed immune systems, although this drug is normally well tolerated. Advanced AIDS patients may risk earlier death taking high doses of valacyclovir for the prevention of cytomegalovirus infection.

Soft climb

Article Abstract:

An ascent of Mt. Kinabalu is described. Mt. Kinabalu is in Malaysia and it is 4,350 meters high. An ascent takes about two days and the lower part is lush with tropical vegetation. Climbers reach the rest house at 3,550 meters where beds and food are available. Climbers must have a guide to assist them and, once at the rest house, they can rest and prepare for the next day's climb. This is more challenging and people hold on to ropes which are tied to rocks during the three and a half hour ascent. The summit is very cold but the views are excellent.
