Some ride out turbulence: savings plans help fuel net fund inflows

Article Abstract:

Templeton Franklin Investment Services (Asia) Ltd has encouraged many hesitant investors that the regional downturn is a good chance to level down their investment costs and profit when the market rebounds. Regular-savings plans for unit trusts, which refer to mutual funds in the city, probably makes up only 5% of Hong Kong funds. However, the percentage is increasing, with about 20 of the 45 members of Hong Kong Investment Funds Association, offering the service.

Investment advisers have recommended that some big-capital stocks, particularly utilities, are attractively priced enough to be bought. Investment advisers maintain that big-cap stock reflect a lot of bad news and that prices are further lowered by short-selling practices. Some Advisers have recommended Maybank, Tenaga Nasional and Sime Darby as some of the stocks worth buying.
