Sonic the Hedgehog teams up with the Power Rangers

Article Abstract:

Sega Enterprises Ltd. will merge with Bandai Co. reportedly in an effort to build a niche in the US market for character merchandising. The deal, which is valued at 129 billion yen ($1.08 billion), will combine Bandai's strength in retailing with Sega's technological and game-making expertise. The new company, to be called Sega Bandai Ltd., is confident of a global marketing success with projected sales of 600 billion yen. Analysts, however, raise concerns over production overlap and differing management styles.

Time to change perceptions: Tokyo must rouse support for banking bailout

Article Abstract:

Japan's Ministry of Finance could help initiate moves for a banking bailout by revising the way it measures bad loans. The country's bad-loan problem, which stood at $200 bil in July 1997, could reach twice the amount if measured by US standards. The ministry could convince the Japanese public to injecting tax money at banks by giving a morbid yet more accurate assessment of the country's banking problem.
