Spirit of the age

Article Abstract:

The Saga Group headquarters building at Folkestone, England, took 15 months to complete from its start date of Feb 1997. The building combines an office block and an amenity building called the Pavillion. It was designed by Michael Hopkins and Partners and the main contractor was Schal Construction Management. The office building incorporates views of the coast for the telesales area. Other workers are able to overlook the atrium. The Pavillion includes a grand hall and provides space for child care facilities for the children of staff. The hall can also be used by community groups.

Concrete contractor's HQ is a vote of confidence

Article Abstract:

It took a year to construct the new 3,850 sq mt office building in Weiden, Germany, for Wurschinger, which specializes in concrete construction. The building, designed by architect Gisela Miessl, features a strong facade on the road side and a more informal rear elevation. It brings together precast and in-situ concrete elements, with the in-situ concrete staircase, for example, being cantilevered from the reinforced precast floor-slab units. There are in-situ staircase towers for cross-bracing.
