Spirits and liqueurs in Italy

Article Abstract:

The Italian market for spirit drinks and liqueurs has seen a drop in volume sales of 1% in 1993 and 1994, and a drop in per capita consumption of 29% between 1984 and 1993. This decline looks set to continue though exports may be boosted by the low value of the Italian lira. New products such as fruit liqueurs are increasing their market share as are products with a lower alcohol content. Exports rose in 1993 and 1994, while imports also rose in 1993, when they had not reached levels achieved in 1991. Production fell in volume terms in both 1993 and 1994.
