Stansted looks at lifecycle costs for baggage handling

Article Abstract:

BAA has awarded Siemens Airport Solutions with a contract to design, install and commission the baggage handling system at London Stansted's 57.2 million pounds sterling terminal extension. The choice took into consideratio the lifecycle costs of the system including maintenance, operation and spares management. To secure the contract, Siemens had to demonstrate the philosohpy and methodology of its approach to ensure that it would meet the expectations of BAA.

Heathrow deal for IER

Article Abstract:

IER has been chosen by Arinc to supply London Heathrow Terminals 1, 2 and 3 with printers and readers. The contract covers one year of supplying one of the largest common user terminal equipment systems in the world serving over 80 airlines in the central terminal area. It involves 800 check-in printers, 600 bag tag printers and 195 boarding gate readers ready to start operations in Sep 2000. It includes printers that use direct thermal technology.

Prospects rise in the regions

Article Abstract:

UK's major airports have posted significant losses in revenues in fiscal year 1999-2000 influenced by duty-free sales to European community travellers. Manchester Airport reported a 24 million pounds sterling loss of revenue while BAA lost 67 million pounds sterling of duty and tax-free income. Meanwhile, UK's small regional airports such as Leeds Bradford and Ediburgh have recrded increased passenger traffic driven by strong airline interest.
