Straits settlement: Malacca's stockbrokers are waking up

Article Abstract:

Malaysia's securities industry is experiencing a boom in the provinces, especially in Malacca and in outlying areas. One of the successful licensed brokerages in Malacca is Straits Securities. The boom in the industry can be attributed to the abolition of legalized gambling in Malaysia in 1990. Although it can be argued that dealing in securities is entirely different from gambling, it is the same mentality that drives Malaysians to engage in both activities. The lack of young professionals, however, darkens the future of Malacca as a financial center.

Traveller's Tales

Article Abstract:

Malaysia's Lake Chini is home to a monster and a sunken city. That is close to the truth for residents who have seen the snakelike creature and archaeologists who have discovered some evidence of a civilization that may have suffered from a cataclysm in the 14th century. At any rate, the place has become a veritable tourist attraction. Skeptics and believers alike crowd into the area which has become dotted with tourist hotels and restaurants.
