Strategies for service systems

Article Abstract:

The service sector has greatly increased in importance to the global economy and this has resulted in fierce competition between services-oriented businesses around the world. A model for scheduling postal distribution employees

Article Abstract:

A generalizable linear programming model is formulated for the US postal distribution staff scheduling. The staff scheduling model considers parameters such as workload, staff status, overtime and management preferences. It is considered implementable and reduces the amount of overtime required in management schedules. The model is evaluated through a systematic sensitivity analysis of the parameters. It can also be used to assess the impact of long-term policy issues on systems performance.
