Study says glitches zap Malaysian technology corridor

International consultants McKinsey and Co. has reported that Malaysia's multimedia super corridor has not attracted enough interest form global technology companies or had a significant impact on the nation's economy. Among the recommendations the company has made to the Multimedia Development Corp. are to directly award high-value contracts to high-priority global technology companies and hire top managers with a strong industry track record.

Reports that Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional of Malaysia may soon be bought has served as a boost to the company's stocks. However, several stock analysts contend that a new owner, even a wealthy one, does not alter the gloomy forecast for the country's car industry. Inspite of capturing nearly 60% of the market, new registrations for Proton models more than decline 50% in September 1998.
