Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux agrees to buy out its Argentine partner

Article Abstract:

Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux of France has agreed to acquire Sociedad Comercial del Plata SA (SCP) of Argentina in a deal valued at up to $150 million. The final price of the deal has not been finalized yet according to Jean-Louis Chaussade, Suez-Lyonnaise's Latin American operations director. Suez Lyonnaise will be acquiring all of its Argentine partner's interests in four water-works firms in Argentina. SCP could use the profit ranging $60 million to $70 million it may secure from the sale to pay its debt of about $100 million, due in December 1998.

Vivendi, Softbank plan web deal

Article Abstract:

Vivendi SA is starting up a major Internet alliance in Europe with Japan's Softbank Corp. The alliance will involve the pooling of the two companies' resources for the purpose of investing in new Internet companies in Europe. The alliance emphasizes Vivendi chairman Jean-Marie Messier's commitment to turn the company into a major multimedia entity. The alliance will also probably speed up the development of the Internet industry in Europe.
