TV viewers in Canada are debating right to see foreign fare

Article Abstract:

In order to protect the Canadian television broadcasting industry, Canadian laws prohibit some U.S. television channels from broadcasting in Canada. This has resulted in satellite broadcasting piracy among some Canadian viewers, but U.S. satellite television providers and Canadian law enforcement officials are increasing their prosecution of offenders.

U.S. eases media-ownership rules

Article Abstract:

Media-ownership regulations in the US have been eased by regulators, allowing companies to acquire more television stations. Companies will also be allowed to own a newspaper and a broadcast station in the same city. Opponents say the move will allow major companies to monopolize the US industry.

U.S. Senate votes to scrap rules on media's reach

Article Abstract:

Regulations that would have allowed media companies to expand in the U.S. have been voted down by the U.S. Senate. However, it is still possible that the majority of the rules will stay in effect due to the tight Senate vote.
