Ten years of innovation in equity distribution

Article Abstract:

An overview of developments in privatization-related securities offerings since 1988 is presented. In 1998 over 100 nations have active privatization programs, and those programs are benefiting from offerings developments that occurred in the UK in the early 1990s. As of yearend 1993, the UK Government was responsible for the 10 largest-ever privatizations, excluding Japan's sale of NTT to domestic investors only.

Peru enters the last stages

Article Abstract:

An understanding of the evolution and current status of Peru's privatization process can provide a better understanding of the process' likely future course. In the early 1990s, the Fujimori administration made privatization one of the foundations of the country's economic reform effort. The 1991 creation of COPRI, a ministerial commission, marked the legal beginning of the privatization program.

Hong Kong's MTRC to privatize

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway Corp., an underground rail system, is to be sold in a partial privatization. About $3.9 billion is expected to be raised from the sale which is unlikely before 2000 or 2001. According to a government official, private ownership could broaden the rail way's access to funds and strenghten its efficiency and competitiveness.
