Spain's Endesa to appeal ban on its deal in Chile

Article Abstract:

Empresa Nacional de Electricidad S.A. of Spain criticized a decision by Chilean regulators to temporarily block the $2.1 billion tender offer that would have given the Spanish utility control of Endesa Chile. According to Chile's federal prosecutor, the offer if accepted would in effect have given Endesa Spain a monopoly over Chile's electricity industry. Endesa Spain's Enersis S.A. subsidiary already owns 25% of Endesa Chile, as well as 73.9% of power distributor Chilectra.
