Thailand's familiar aspirations

Article Abstract:

The new six-party coalition government likely to be established in Thailand following the general election on Nov 17, 1996, will at least be an improvement on the outgoing administration, headed by the Chart Thai party of Banharn Silpa-archa. Many people are willing to give the new administration, headed by General Chavalit Yongchaiyudh and his New Aspiration Party, a chance to show whether it is capable of governing the country. Chavalit has promised a more respectable cabinet than the previous government, but reducing the number of cabinet seats available will force him to find other ways of rewarding loyalty.
