The difficulty of being a dauphin

Article Abstract:

Henri de Castries is likely to be the man selected by Axa chief executive and chairman, Claude Bebear, to succeed him. Bebear aims to ensure that the succession occurs smoothly, with time for training, and the avoidance of a power struggle. Bebear joined Axa when it was a small company, gained the top job, and helped Axa to develop. De Castries worked at the French treasury before working at Axa. De Castries is unfitted for imitating Bebear, and has to draw on his own strengths.

Credible lightness of being

Article Abstract:

Mixed views continue to be expressed about the role of architects in encouraging sustainable development. Some observers feel that architects should place strong emphasis on ensuring that materials used are environmentally clean. Consideration must also be given to embodied energy in various materials. Technology may also play a role in reducing the environmental impact of architecture, as it may make certain buildings, such as banks, obsolete.
