The dualism of Greek firms and management: present state and future implications

Article Abstract:

Some of the management problems facing Greek companies are examined, and solutions are suggested. Family-owned Greek firms have particular problems when competing in a global marketplace against large multinational companies. Greek firms have to pay high wages in comparison to production, they cannot spend much on market research, the managers often have limited experience, are autocratic and are resistant to change. These firms may not be able to survive unless strategic alliances are made with other firms abroad, so that they can compete with multinational companies.
