Transparency and China's aspirations

Article Abstract:

There are several government policies that prevent China from setting up an effective stock exchange. The Chinese government has set up a financial market in order to attract investors to finance the country's development. However, government policies prevent the expansion of the financial market by blocking information dissemination. Monopoly of information may translate to added risks for ordinary businesses, therefore reflecting refusal to invest.

Investors poise to pounce after Japan stock-market swoon

Article Abstract:

Japanese investors are ready to buy after the recent drop in several Nikkei 225 stock market sectors. The daily closes for November 1996 to January 1997 show that there was a drop in several sectors of the stock market with the Nikkei 225 averaging -10.63% in 1996. The sectors that experienced a decline in 1996 include electrical equipment, retailing, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, construction, brokerage companies and banks.

Freeing up Vietnam's stock market

Vietnam's stock market, launched in July, has only four stocks listed. The market, which has seen no foreign participation, is open only three mornings a week.
