The first wave

Article Abstract:

Canada's 21 Category 1 specialty channels are expected to fuel the acceptance of expensive set-top boxes beyond television lovers to the uninterested majority. While the new channels admit that it is not easy to market their services, the new specialties predict they will increase the number of subscribers as well as drive the demand for digital receivers. For example, CHUM Television's sales and marketing VP David Kirkwood projects around 800,000 subscribers to each of the company's new channels.
