The future of development plans: reflections on Manchester's experiences 1945-1995

Article Abstract:

The development plan-making experience in Manchester is described, covering a 50-year period, based on direct practice experience. An overview of the British planning system is giving, with detailed examination of the Manchester unitary development plan (UDP). This raises the concerns about achieving a rapid plan making process and the way in which changes in current British law and practice could help speed the process.
