The number of payments in shops doubles

Article Abstract:

Czech Republic: The utilization of cash cards of the association Visa International increased in the country in 2000. Visa has 1.7 payment cards in the Czech Republic. The total expenditures of their holders were nearly USD 2.3 bil in conversion in 2000, one third more compared to 1999. There are over 25,000 shops that accept Visa and Visa Electron cards in the Czech Republic. Visa Electron cards are the most frequently used. There are a total of 1.5 mil pieces of the cards in the Czech Republic. The holders of Visa Electron cards spent a total of USD 1.8 bil in 2000.

Cash cards still on the rise

Article Abstract:

Czech Republic: The number of cash cards will exceed 4 mil in 2000. About 50% of the number will be represented by cards of the system VISA International, 49% by cards of Europay International and 1% by the cards of American Express and Diners Club International. The largest Czech cash card issuer is Ceska sporitelna (Czech Republic), which released nearly a half of all 3.9 mil cards issued in 2000. Czech consumers use payment cards four-times less compared to advanced countries.

There are mainly EC/MC cards in the Czech Republic

Article Abstract:

Eropay International CR (Prague, Czech Republic), payment card manufacturer, released a total of over 812,000 Maestro cards in the Czech Republic at the end of 2000. The firm released more than 2 mil cards of the brands Eurocard-MasterCard (EC/MC) and Maestro at the end of 2000. Their number increased by 129% in 2000 compared to 1999. All the utilized cards EC/MC have to be equipped with a multi-function chip from 2005.
