The legacy of Taiwan's Lee

Article Abstract:

Taiwan is holding a presidential election in Mar 2000, and Lee Teng-hui, who had brought about a consensus, will be replaced. The Kuomintang candidate is Lien Chang, vice president, while the Democratic Progressives' candidate is Chen Shui-bian, and James Soong is standing as an independent. The election is dominated by relations with China, and the approach of the three candidates tends to be softer than that of Lee. There is concern that corruption that is affecting the Kuomintang may not be challenged.
