The survival of new plants: start-up conditions and post-entry evolution

Article Abstract:

Previous studies have shown that new firms with high post-entry growth rates are less likely to exit from a market. However, these studies failed to delve on the current size of firms as a determinant of survivability by focusing more on the initial size. Closer study reveals that current size is a better predictor of failure than initial size and that past growth is a significant factor in a firm's decision to entry or exit. Moreover, new firms are most likely to succeed in growing industries or in industries with fewer new entrants.

Managerial compensation, strategy and firm performance: an introduction

Article Abstract:

A main theory in managerial compensation concerns principal-agent problems and focuses on the structure instead of the level of managerial compensation. Results from this theory may not be generally applied to compensation systems in countries other than the US as this theory practically procures all existing evidence from US data sources. Alternative or augmentative strategies are offered by several sources, some based on the consideration of compensation settings external to the US.
