More hurdles for Bangkok

Article Abstract:

The Airport Authority of Thailand has continued to experience disruptions to its plans for Bangkok, Thailand's second international airport, the latest of which is the resignation of New Bangkok International Airport Co Chmn Smith Thamsarote. The company has had four chairmen and two managing directors in only three years, which appears to reflect the political machinations behind the constant roller-coaster changing nature of the project.

Three Thai airports to be privatised

Article Abstract:

Three Thai provincial international airports are recommended for privatization. The proposal calls for the government to sell a 75% equity stake in Chiang Mai, Hat Yai and Phuket airports to the public. The government retains the other 25% and the option to buy back the privatized shares after 20 years. BAA, the UK airports operator, has shown interest in buying a majority stake in Phuket and other international airports. The recommendation was made by a committee that is also studing management proposals for the two international airports in Bangkok.
