Accord on videodisk format is hailed as winner for consumers, Japan rivals

Article Abstract:

Hollywood movie studios, computer manufacturers and consumer electronics companies have agreed to use a single compact-disk format. The new digital videodisk technology will promote the use of five-inch disks that will be compatible with existing CD and CD-ROM players but can store more than 20 times as much information. The videodisk players are expected to render videocassette recorders and laser disk players obsolete.
