Article Abstract:

The table lists the 30 largest banks in Latvia based on the total capital by the end of 1997. Latvijas Unibanka is ranked the largest bank in Latvia with a capital of 198,661 Latvian lats as of year-end 1997, followed by Parekss Banka with 198,510 Latvian lats. Rigas Komercbanka is ranked the third-largest bank in the country with a capital of 121,001 Latvian lats as of year-end 1997. The table, compiled by PricewaterhouseCoopers Latvia, also lists the net assets and gross loans in 1997, the pretax profit and the return on assets.
