Money in the bank

Article Abstract:

The Vietnam Fund's secondary offering on July 21 reveals worldwide enthusiasm for investing in that country. Despite losing 1.2% of its value in the prior 20 months, charging a 14% premium over its net-asset value, and having 96% of its assets in cash, the fund attracted $44.6 million in the new offering, quintupling in size. While it has only invested in one project, the fund plans to invest in five more and is investigating another 40, so it needed cash quickly.

Is the Acer turn-around for real?

Article Abstract:

Share prices of Acer Taiwan have greatly increased since Dec 1992 despite the presence of a market slump in Taiwan. Stock observers believe that shares belonging to the computer company will improve due to profits coming from the development of huge tracts of land amounting to NT$ 500 million. Other factors that may spark a rally include improving foreign operations and joint ventures in the US, and an increase in computer sales in the Taiwanese market.
