Article Abstract:

The US Department of Transportation may be pressured by major US airlines to block British Airways' investment in USAir. The investment may break laws barring foreign ownership of airlines. The UK government could help by loosening barriers to foreign involvement in British airlines.

The grounding: aircraft makers

Article Abstract:

The commercial aircraft industry continued to contract on Dec 7, 1992 when Northwest Airlines cancelled a $3.5 billion Airbus purchase. The International Air Transport Assoc estimates airlines will lose a combined $10 billion by 1994, and are loathe to invest in new aircraft.
