Ty Llen: Wales' National Centre for Literature

Article Abstract:

The competition for the design of a National Centre for Literature in Swansea, Wales has been won by Alsop and Stormer. The winning design is an energy efficient, steel and glass structure that will contain a bookshop, library, exhibition and catering facilities as well as a writers' centre. The building is designed to be a forum, symbolic of the importance of the word. The runner-up in the competition is a design by Stirling Wilford. This contrasts with the winner and is in the monumental tradition.
