UBS to assume control of ventures with LTCB

Article Abstract:

UBS AG, a bank based in Switzerland, will totally own its asset-management joint venture with Long-Term Credit Bank of Japan (LTCB). Both companies each own a 50% stake in the joint venture. UBS, together with unnamed third parties, will also boost ownership of a 50:50 investment-banking joint venture with LTCB to 66.67%. The remaining 33.33% will stay in the hands of LTCB. Luqman Arnold, chief executive officer of UBS Asia/Pacific, said the deal reflects the company's commitment to the Japanese market.

Meditor to help investors hedge Europe stock bets

Meditor Capital Management, a manager of hedge funds that plans to place investments into stocks in Europe, appoints Talal Shakerchi as its new director. Meditor Capital Management plans to introduce a Bermuda-registered hedge fund and looks to capitalize on European investors' fear of overvalued markets. Hedge funds in Europe are enjoying excellent demand from investors as a result of the fear of overvalued equity markets and investors' improved investing savvy.

Spinoff is delayed for UBS Capital due to stock slump
