UK: FIDELITY ANNOUNCES DISCOUNT ON "BRIT PACK"

Article Abstract:

In order to make its products even more attractive to customers, Fidelity has announced a 1.25% discount on three UK funds, commonly known as the "Brit Pack" until 1 September 2000. Fidelity UK Growth, Fidelity Special Situations and Fidelity Recovery are all performing well, and the discount, which reduces initial charges to 2% applies to individual savings accounts.

UK: IGNORANCE ABOUT INDIVIDUAL SAVINGS ACCOUNTS

Article Abstract:

Some 60% of the UK public did not know that individual savings account (Isa) interest is free of tax, according to Barclays research. Over a quarter of those with an Isa <16mn> were not sure about the tax free position. Almost half of those surveyed believed that they could not afford to buy an Isa, and there was lack of knowledge about the minimum investment.

UK: New survey of consumer spending

Article Abstract:

Britons have average monthly disposable income of GBu 287, of which 40% is saved or invested, according to Alliance & Leicester. In Wales, 74% of disposable income is saved or invested, compared with 70% in Scotland and 69% in the North. Women save 4% more of their monthly income than men.
