US Marines get on their bike: multirole electric transport on two wheels

Article Abstract:

Montague Corp has finished building about 20 prototypes of the Tactical Electric No Signature Mountain Bike (TENS MTB) for the US Marine Corps. The vehicles were developed as part of the hybrid-electric vehicles program under a grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Montague's TENS MTB is claimed to be capable of allowing infantry soldiers to travel as much as 160km daily at speeds of 24km/hr with loads of up to 23kgs.

US will test Australian active phased-array radar system

Article Abstract:

CEA Technologies, an Australian company, has been awarded a contract by the US Space and Naval Warfare Command to supply up to three examples of its CEA-FAR active phased-array radar. The radar will go through testing to see whether it is useful in providing automatic detection and classification of helicopters for applications such as border control and base defense. The contract is valued at US$9.6 million.

US develops US$9.3m torpedo-defense system

Article Abstract:

Pennsylvania State University's Applied Research Laboratory at Pennsylvania has been awarded a $9.3-million three-year contract by the US Office of Naval Research for the development and demonstration of an integrated torpedo-defense system. The laboratory will develop signal- processing techniques, for use with shipboard and torpedo sensors, designed to improve the probability of target detection and classification, provide processing and displays for tactical situational awareness, and enhance torpedo guidance and control.
