U.S. expertise has market in Vietnam, economist says

Article Abstract:

Economist Joseph Quinlan believes that the Mexican financial crisis will have little effect on US firms' investment plans for Vietnam because of the great difference in the two types of investment. Quinlan stated that US investment in Vietnam remains relatively small in view of the US government's lack of support for such activities. The problem is compounded by bureaucratic roadblocks as well as the lack of legal and financial structures necessary for a modern business environment. However, Vietnam remains particularly attractive for US firms offering agribusiness technology and those seeking a base for low-end, labor-intensive industries.

Straying off the tourist path in Singapore

Article Abstract:

Visitors who want to see the 'real' Singapore should visit the country's many housing estates to witness how Singaporeans carry on their daily routine. These government-built rented apartments look functional and efficient rather than aesthetic, and foreigners working in the country prefer to stay there. Another interesting place to visit is the East Coast Parkway, which is a big recreation area that can be traversed most enjoyably by bicycle.
