U.S. probes allegations of bribery at DaimlerChrysler

Article Abstract:

A criminal investigation has been launched by the United States Department of Justice into executives of the DaimlerChrysler AG's Mercedes unit. The case alleges that senior executives in overseas operations may have been aware of the practice of using bribes. The United States Securities and Exchange Commission has already conducted a civil investigation.

Corruption cases are tarnishing Germany's business image. Employees of c orporations such as Siemens AG and DaimlerChrysler AG are facing charges of fraud and bribery. Although Germany has strict anti-corruption laws, white-collar crimes are increasing.
