Article Abstract:

Chinese scientists are reportedly about to make a breakthrough in the development of a method to obtain combustible hydrogen from water, using sunlight as an energy source and the rare earth neodymium as a catalyst. As China is sitting on 80% of the world's deposits of rare earths, the only expensive input in the process, the discovery could turn the country overnight into an economic giant. Some scientists cautioned, however, that nothing has been published which would allow other scientists to verify the claim. Furthermore, even if the claim were true, the commercial applicability of the technique would have to be determined.

Party cells

Article Abstract:

China's policy on prison labor is embodied in a document that has been created in response to a memorandum of understanding between the country and the US. The agreement bars the entry of products made in prison cells into the US and calls for the investigation of violations and inspection of prison industries by US officials in China. The Chinese document defends prison labor as reformative in character and claims that treatment of prisoners is humane.
