Swissair cost cuts to include layoffs

Swissair is planning to downsize its labor force as part of a restructuring effort. The carrier will lay off an undisclosed amount of employees in order to save a minimum of 500 million Swiss francs (330 million euros) in 2001.

Air Canada reports loss for quarter, plans more layoffs

Article Abstract:

Air Canada posted a much higher than expected loss for the 2001 second-quarter. The carrier also said it would layoff an additional 4,000 workers in order to reduce costs.

Unions are willing to accept cutting 3,500 jobs at Alitalia

Article Abstract:

Alitalia's planned layoff of 3,500 employees will be acceptable to trade unions providing that the carrier acquires funding to bring about a reversal in its fortunes. The job cuts are part of Alitalia's revamped business strategy.
