Update on timber

Article Abstract:

Certification of timber from foreign sources should help to prevent timber from tropical forests being imported into the UK. Although the UK has a forestry industry, which employs around 40,000 people, it is unable to produce some types of softwoods. Some six million cubic metres of timber is grown by the UK forestry industry annually. It is important to use the correct type of timber and use a suitable method of preserving the wood to ensure it will remain in good condition. Researchers are studying the use of timber in six-storey frame structure.
