VENDING CONVENIENCE

Article Abstract:

Avdel (India) Pvt Ltd (AIPL), a producer of fasteners, has a joint venture with Sielaff GmbH of Germany for assembling and marketing of vending machines. Now, it has about 20 models of mechanical and electronic vending machines. These machines can be customised to sell 20 products like cigarettes and condoms. AIPL also proposes to market combi-vendor, India's first vending machine that will offer both drinks and snacks. This machine will be launched by the end of September 1998. It is offering a variety operating system options like tokens, smart cards and coins. AIPL is targeting the machines at State AIDS cells, non- government organisations and large business houses. It is also aiming at the hotels and the foods segment. It has already sold 15 machines to clients like Cadbury India (snack vending machine) and JK Ansell (condom vending machine). It proposes to increase its investment in this business if the volumes grow sufficiently. (ag)

TATA TELESERVICES SETS UP RISLU IN CYBER TOWERS

Article Abstract:

Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTL) has commenced its first phase of network deployment in Andhra Pradesh by setting up a Remote Integrated Switching Line Unit (RISLU) in Cyber Towers in Hyderabad's Hi-Tec City. Customers will be linked by high capacity microwave radio technology with high system reliability. An optical fibre link for the same high reliability is also proposed by TTL with full connectivity to Department of Telecom networks. TTL will provide a complete range of telecom solutions including Centrex, ISDN, voice mail, leased line and DID facilities within a year, aided by high-tech systems from Tata Consultancy Services.
