VLR certification delays

Article Abstract:

American Sportscopter and Italy's Dragon Fly are disappointed over VLR (Very Light Rotorcraft) certification delays in Europe. American Sportscopter, the maker of single-seat and two-seat Ultrasport kit-build series, said that the delays are hampering its efforts to put up distributorship or to sell kits when owners were not cleared to fly their aircraft. Meanwhile, Dragon Fly is after full JAA (Joint Airworthiness Authorities) VLR certification of its Dragon Fly 333 two-seat helicopter to allow it to be used for police, pilot training and other operations.

Heliliner demo

Article Abstract:

The EH101 Heliliner prototype had a rest from its civil maturity flight program and instead underwent an evaluation and demonstration program on proposed scheduled routes in Wales and south-west England. A panel has been investigating for around three years already the viability of a scheduled link to London. Such a service is needed in view of the increasing difficulties of obtaining slots for fixed-wing aircraft.

Choppers galore?

Article Abstract:

UK's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has adopted a cautious attitude towards the new generation of light helicopters. This cautiousness is due to the poor technical knowledge and minimal flying experience of amateurs who ventured to import and develop gyroplanes which resulted in fatal accidents. The CAA has, since, adopted a new airworthiness code, BCAR VLH, which should be met before being issued a Permit to Fly.
