Article Abstract:

The truck and bus traffic of the Finnish Mail will be transferred to the VR Group . The companies have signed a Letter of Intent on the matter. The joining will be clarified by end of October 1998. The basic and local transportation of the Finnish Mail would be transferred to VR's Transpoint. Gold Line bus operations would be joined with Pohjolan Liikenne. There are also plans to join VR garage and service operations to the PT-Autopalvelut of the Finnish Mail. Finnish Mail see the reorganization as two government-owned companies concentrating on their own core businesses. The reorganization will increase the trucks' degree of utilization and bring savings. In bus traffic no savings are expected since the services rarely overlap.

Article Abstract:

Finland's Nokia has received an order for gsm 1900 network for over Fmk 160mn (US$ 29mn) from American Iowa Wireless Service. The order is for a complete gsm 1900 network with network switching subsystem and base station subsystem. The agreement also includes various services associated with installation, implementation and maintenance of the system. The equipment deliveries will begin in July 1998 and the network is expected to be operational by the end of 1998. Nokia Telecommunications considers the contract an important step in the adoption of digital wireless service in the United States.
