Article Abstract:

Vyzkumny ustav organickych syntez (VUOS) (Pardubice, Czech Republic), chemical research and development firm, saw proceeds of 400 mil Kc in 1998. About 50% of the sum were represented by proceeds from the sales of chemical specialities. The total proceeds include a benefit of 40 mil Kc from the state budget for the solution of tasks within grant programmes for the support of research and development. VUOS has 450 employees. Besides research and development, it is involved in the production of chemical specialities from the field of qualified chemical production. Nearly one third of VUOS's proceeds was represented by the production of a semi-product for the production of a medicine for AIDS treatment in 1998. VUOS is a member of the holding chemical company Aliachem (Czech Republic). The firm is involved mainly in the production of chemical specialities, basic semi products for the pharmaceutical industry, special plastic materials, dye stuffs, pigments, services in the field of the analytic chemical sector, toxicology and the environment. VUOS's largest consumer is Synthesia (Pardubice, Czech Republic).

Deza processes 350,000 t of raw tar per year

Article Abstract:

Deza (Valasske Mezirici, Czech Republic), chemical firm, processes 350,000 t of raw tar and 150,000 t of raw benzol every year. The firm is focused mainly on the production of basic aromates. It decreased its emissions of benzene and other organic substances to the air by 75% during 1992-1996. It has built an industrial waste incinerating plant with a capacity of 10,000 t per year. The company saw a gross profit of 37 mil Kc in 1998. Its outputs amounted to 3.344 bil Kc in 1998. About 1.933 bil Kc of the sum were represented by exports. The firm's total investments were 248 mil Kc in 1998.
