In order to be more authentic Ideval, the cheese subsidiary of the Sodiaal group, has changed its name to Les Fromageries Riches Monts. The word 'Fromagerie' evokes the image of gastronomic tradition and small-scale production. The company also has a strategy to get around the AOC products by introducing cheese inspired by the AOC products. Quicke, the family-owned British company wants to sell its cheddar to French people who like upmarket cheeses and who insist on the regional aspect of their cheese, which resembles French AOC cheese. For the time being this cheese is offered only during special British weeks or two-week periods. In 1997, the Compagnie des Fromages acquired the Pierre Levasseur brand which offers a line of AOC soft cheese: Normandy camembert, pont l' v que, livarot, chaource, and poisses de Bourgogne. The camembert is made from raw milk, is moulded from the ladle, and ripened for three weeks instead of the two for traditional camembert.

FRANCE: BRILLAT SAVARIN LEPETIT LAUNCHED

Article Abstract:

The Fromageries de Terroirs had introduced Brillat Savarin Affine Lepetit, a creamy cheese without a rind, and with 72% fat content. It has taken eleven months of research and development to develop this new product. Brillat Savarin Affine Lepetit has a 28-day use-by period, and it is priced at FFr 13.50 for a 200-gram cardboard box.

FRANCE: RICHES MONTHS INTRODUCES CROQ'ANIMAL

The Fromageries Riches Monts has launched Croq'Animal, a hard cheese presented in the shape of forest animals or jungle creatures. This product, designed for children, is guaranteed to have no preservatives or colouring agents. The recommended retail price is FFr 10.30 of a carton of eight individual units.
