Vaunted German engineers face competition from China

Siemens AG expands product development in China, forsaking the German engineers who have long been known for their skill as innovators in the field of telecommunications. German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder has acknowledged the risk that such outsourcing poses to the German economy by introducing government initiatives to shore up the engineering sector. Meanwhile, Siemens is focusing to develop phones that appeal to the Chinese mobile phone market, the biggest and fastest growing market internationally.

Deutsche Post is poised for a new reinvention

Deutsche Post AG of Germany is in negotiations to acquire Exel PLC of the United Kingdom for 3.4 billion Pounds (5.1 billion Euros or $6.3 billion). Acquistion of the transportation company would double the size of the Duetsche Post AG's logistics operation.
