Victoria smiles all the way to the bank

Article Abstract:

Victoria's government has raised A$5.3bn through sale of its gas transmission/retail companies, and it has also sold V-line Freight to a group headed by RailAmerica. Yet to be sold are the public transportation assets and Transmission Pipelines Australia. Utiliti Corp/AMP bought Ikon Energy/Multinet for A$1.67bn and Boral/Envestra purchased Energy 21/Stratus for A$1.97bn. The sale prices represented a price/earnings multiple of 16.2.

US triggers nuclear sell-off

Article Abstract:

The privatisation of United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC) has raised $3.12 billion and it marks the first government agency privatisation in the US in 10 years. The company is involved in uranium enrichment and it is currently developing a new method dubbed atomic vapour laser isotope separation (AVLIS). Separately, a 51% share of the Puerto Rico Telephone Company has been sold to GTE of the US for $1,875 billion.
