A RESTRUCTURED NORTH AMERICAN POWER SECTOR

Article Abstract:

In this article Richard Drouin, partner at McCarthy Tetrault and former president and chief executive officer of Hydro Quebec, and Ilan Dunsky analyze the changing electricity industry in Canada and the U.S. The article discusses how legislation in the U.S. has enabled the U.S. industry to open up to non-utility electricity generators and removed barriers to the use of the North American transmission network. The article also discusses how although deregulation is occurring more cautiously in Canada, the industry is still changing.
