Yo, cabbie! Malaysia's taxi trouble takes its toll

Article Abstract:

Kuala Lumpur's growing traffic problem has driven most of the cab drivers to avoid downtown during rush hour, leaving many businesspeople stranded and sometimes breaking deals. Malaysia has grown furiously for the past decade, but the resulting increase in local traffic, with three times as many cars but only 1/3 more road, means congestion is approaching Bangkok's level. Work on a new mass-transit system is further disrupting the roads. Higher taxi fares might help remedy the problem.

The SOV was founded in 1991 to help citizens of Singapore become globally aware and today maintains a database of over 500 skilled volunteer applicants.
