The Belgian government has been approached by Virgin Express Holdings PLC about the acquisition of 'Sabena's viable remaining assets.' Virgin hopes to create a new airline either by this means or by some other means. In the wake of Sabina's collapse, other airlines are reopening routes that had been closed.

Virgin Express wants to expand its services by creating a new airline whether that means acquiring some assets of the bankrupt Belgian Sabena or not. Where Sabena left holes in service, Delta Air Lines, bmi british midland, Lufthansa and Virgin Express plan to slip into those spots with flights. Dutch KLM is expected to pick up a share of Sabena customers as well.
