Virgin Introduces its wireless ways

Article Abstract:

Virgin Mobile is planning to enter Asian-Pacific markets via a $ 100 million Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. joint venture. In addition, by utilizing brash television commercials, holistic customer management services, and by offering packaged wireless Internet content, Virgin Mobile expects Asian services within six months. By separating network engineering and consumer marketing, the virtual mobile-network operator has signed more then 500,000 users promising a million subscribers by March.

AT&T's long march ends

Article Abstract:

AT&T Corp. is closing a deal in Pudong, Shanghai, China to provide Internet-based services through a $25 million joint venture with Shanghai Telecom Corp. and a Shanghai investment firm. After seven years of lobbying to provide telecommunications services to Pudong, AT&T Corp. is receiving only a 25% interest in the company, called Shanghai Symphony Telecommunications Co., due to political wrangling regarding the pace of government reforms in the telecommunications sector.

For China, overseas IPO route closes

Article Abstract:

China's plans for overseas stock offerings have been delayed due to restructuring efforts and weak stock markets. China Telecommunications Corp. and Bank of China's Hong Kong operations were canditates for initial public offerings, but likely will not be listed until late in 2001 or early in 2002.
