Visa International taps executive from Standard Chartered as CEO

Article Abstract:

Visa International has appointed Malcolm Williamson, who is group chief executive at Standard Chartered PLC in London, as its president and CEO. Williamson, 59, will replace Edmund P. Jensen, who announced his retirement in January 1998. Williamson will take on his new post on Oct. 1. To be among his priorities, Williamson said, is technology. Visa is the leader in the US credit card market with a 50% share of the market. Its share of the worldwide market is placed at roughly 58%, with volume in 1997 reaching over $1 trillion.
